Forest Engineer (Natural Resources Engineer 2) – Washington Department of Natural Resources (3 locations)

The Washington DNR is seeking three full-time forest engineers. As a forest engineer, you will work as part of a team with district foresters and other DNR staff providing engineering consultation in the planning and layout of timber sales and other projects. You will apply sound knowledge and administration skills to the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of DNR’s forest road infrastructure. This position is responsible for providing expertise in logging and harvest methods, determining quantities and materials and producing cost estimates, performing layout and design of culverts and fish passage structures, and performing contract compliance.

Qualifications vary by position but generally include:

  1. B.S. Degree in Forest Engineering, Civil Engineering, Forest Operations, or closely related field;
  2. Two years of experience in harvest system design, forest transportations system design, or forest road construction/maintenance contract administration. An “in-house training” opportunity is available for applicants not meeting the experience requirement;
  3. Knowledge of forest engineering principles, techniques and application such as logging systems, harvest system design and road transportation design;
  4. Experience with engineering equipment, tools, and software;
