Job Summary
The Department of Biosystems Engineering at Auburn University is seeking candidates for a Research Engineer to assist with research related to logging productivity. *This is a two year limited term appointment. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.*
Essential Functions
Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Collect, manage, and analyze logging productivity and stand/log/tree data in sometimes arduous field conditions; prepare technical reports that include statistical comparisons, technical graphics, and detailed descriptions of methods; ability to work in and around heavy equipment safely; develop specs for, calibrate, install, and maintain electronic data collection instrumentation; and perform other duties as assigned.
Education Level
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Field of Study
Forest Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or other closely related engineering field.
Years of Experience
No experience required for Level I
Minimum Skills and Abilities
*Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, demonstrated technical excellence, the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Minimum Technology Skills
knowledge of statistical methods and software, and an ability to interpret the output/results.
Minimum License and Certifications
Valid driver’s license required.
Desired Qualifications

Familiarity with chainsaw safety, GIS experience, heavy equipment operations experience.

Knowledge/familiarity with forest mensuration methods is essential, along with scrupulous attention to detail in collecting and managing research data.
Salary Grade 32
Salary Range $35,000 – $58,400
