The Council on Forest Engineering is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Abdullah Emin Akay, Professor in the Department of Forest Engineering at Bursa Technical University, Turkey.
An alumnus of Oregon State University, Dr. Akay was a highly respected figure in international forest operations research. He made significant contributions to the field, particularly in the areas of computer-aided forest road design, precision forestry, and GIS applications. Through his research, teaching, and his leadership as Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Forest Engineering, he left a lasting mark on our discipline.
He was a valued colleague and friend to many within the international COFE community. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, his students, and his colleagues at Bursa Technical University.
