Call for Abstracts – 2018 COFE Annual Meeting

41st Annual Council on Forest Engineering Meeting (COFE 2018)  —  July 15-18, 2018  —  Williamsburg, Virginia, USA

You are invited to submit abstracts for presentations and/or papers at the upcoming 41st Annual Council on Forest Engineering Meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia; July 15-18, 2018.  The meeting theme is “Revolutionary Traditions, Innovative Industries.”  Contributions are invited that address forest engineering challenges and innovative solutions globally.  The meeting will be hosted by the Virginia Tech Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation.

Three submission tracks are available:

  1. Published abstract with meeting presentation only (no paper required)
  2. Proceedings paper with meeting presentation (not peer reviewed)
  3. Peer reviewed paper with presentation (published in a special issue of the International Journal of Forest Engineering)

The deadline for abstract submission is March 1, 2018.  Abstract submissions will be reviewed and notification of acceptance will be confirmed by March 15, 2018.  Submissions addressing the following topics will be given priority; however, other relevant forest engineering topics will be considered: 

  • Biomass/Bioenergy
  • Global Industry Structure
  • Machine Technologies
  • Harvesting Sustainability
  • Transportation/Supply Chain Efficiency
  • Value Recovery
  • Reduced Site Impacts
  • Environmental Regulation Compliance
  • Logging Workforce
  • Forest Roads and Transportation

Submission Guidelines:

Submissions must include a presentation/paper title, brief abstract (<250 words), and author name(s) along with contact information.  Submissions must clearly indicate which track is being applied for: 1) published abstract, 2) proceedings paper, or 3) peer reviewed paper for submission to the International Journal of Forest Engineering.  Abstracts must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format (.doc) to Chad Bolding at bolding@vt.edu.  Students wishing to be considered for the Student Communication Award must submit an abstract via tracks #2 or #3, meet stated deadlines, attend the meeting, and present the paper.

Notification of Acceptance: March 15, 2018

Final Published Abstract or Proceedings Paper Due: June 1, 2018

Final International Journal of Forest Engineering Peer Reviewed Paper Due: August 15, 2018
