SALARY RANGE:  $3,934 – $5,160 per month
TYPE OF POSITION:  Project, Full-time. Position is expected to end June 30, 2018. This position is represented by the WPEA.   Important Note: Once appointed to this position the incumbent will be required to pay union dues or other representation fees within the first 30 days of employment.
LOCATION:  Forks, Washington

POSITION PROFILE:
This Natural Resource Engineer 2 position is based in the Olympic Region headquarters in Forks, Washington, and works as part of a team of other natural resource engineers with backgrounds in forest and civil engineering. The primary duty of the position is to provide engineering survey, design, and construction compliance in support of the maintenance of Olympic Region's road infrastructure and timber sales program. This position's projects will focus primarily on fish passage design in a forest environment, but will also include other non-fish stream crossing designs. Such projects include, but are not limited to, fish passable culverts, bridges, removal of existing culverts, and installation of new non-fish culverts. The engineer in this position will scope projects; perform engineering site surveys using a total station, laser rangefinder, and other survey equipment; produce designs and calculations; develop plans, specifications, quantity estimates, and cost estimates; apply for permits; and perform construction compliance.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
One year as a Natural Resources Engineer 1
OR
A Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Forest Engineering and two years of engineering experience in transportation system design or road maintenance procedures.
The following substitutions may be made for the education and experience requirements in this option:
Registration as an Engineer-In-Training will substitute for education;
Registration as a professional engineer in the State of Washington or another state based on registration requirements equivalent to those in Washington will substitute for either the education or experience requirements;
Equivalent education/experience in professional engineering practices may be substituted for the education requirement. Credit granted for experience and/or education under this substitution must demonstrate four or more years of broad based progressive experience in the fundamental knowledge of engineering theory and practice under the guidelines specified in WAC 196-20-020.

KEY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of hydraulic structure design (i.e. Higher education, on the job training/experience, or practical knowledge)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficiency in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, RoadEng, and other engineering software programs
Knowledge of construction compliance
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of surveying methods and using total station survey equipment
Preparation of contract plans, specifications and estimates

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Must have a valid drivers license, two years of driving experience and provide an employment/commercial driving record issued from all states a license has been held in during the past 3 years.
Ability to work on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
