NER.COFE The New England Regional Council on Forest Engineering Annual Workshop was held at the University of Maine in Orono on March 10-11, 2008. Topics were "Impacts of Wildlife on the Forest Industry" and "Building and Maintaining Forestry Relationships." Attendance was 223 people. NER.COFE increased their yearly donation to $1,500 for the Thomas J. Corcoran Memorial Scholarship Fund. More information about NER.COFE is available at at: www.forest.umaine.edu/nercofe
WR.COFE Western Regional Council on Forest Engineering held two one-day seminars on the theme, “Advancements in Forest Harvesting Operations.” The first one in Eugene, Oregon, January 17, 2008 was attended by 160 people. The second one in Chehalis, Washington, was attended by 100 people.

Guide to Forest Road Engineering in Mountainous Terrain This Guide is written to promote the use of recommended practices in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of forest roads in mountainous terrain. The recommendations are drawn from the practices that have proven effective in minimizing the adverse impact of forest roads. Recruitment Results Chad Bolding receives the honor of recruiting the most new members (21) from 7/1/07 to 6/30/08. Also thanks to the following people who recruited members: Ed Aulerich, Jim Frost, and John Garland.
New Memberships Between 7/1/07 and 6/30/08, 85 new members joined COFE. That number included 21 free memberships given to Clemson University and University of Laval undergrad students (paid by John Garland); 5 free memberships given to graduate students attending Clemson University, Louisiana State University, and Oregon State University (paid by COFE); and 2 free memberships given to the Annual Meeting Operator and Student awardees (paid by COFE). |
