OUTREACH NOTICE Regional Logging Engineer R6, R5, BLM Natural Resources, Pacific Northwest Region USDA Forest Service, Portland, Oregon Forester GS-401/460/810/462-12/13 permanent position (1 position only)
The Pacific Northwest Region may soon be filling a permanent Regional Logging Engineer, Forester GS-401/460/810/462-12/13, position. The duty station of this position will be at the Regional Office in Portland Oregon. The job is shared with R5 and possibly the BLM. The Forest Service will consider applicants from the Forest Service, BLM, WA DNR, and other agencies, as well as industry.
Position: The incumbent serves as Regional Logging Engineer in the R6 Regional Office, Natural Resources, Forest Products and Vegetation Group. The incumbent will also serve the same role for Region 5, and possibly the BLM. This position is responsible for a wide variety of activities that include; (1) providing technical expertise and advice to forests, districts, and areas, in logging systems and other fields, (2) developing training material and training sessions at national and lower levels and teaching logging systems and presale material at all levels, (3) become recognized as a leader nationally, and at lower levels in all aspects of logging systems and presale, (4) develop and maintain working relationships with industry groups, safety agencies, universities, loggers, and other agencies, as well as serve on advisory groups with Oregon OSHA, Oregon State University Forest Engineering, and the San Dimas Technology and Development Center. (5) provide expert advice and be an advocate of the R6 danger tree program including conducting training with pathologists and engineering personnel, (6) be an expert in the management of the Region 6 SBA program.
The incumbent also must be able to program spreadsheets at an advanced level so that the SBA, and logging related spreadsheets can be maintained and become further developed. The incumbent must also be able to field check work done by others.
Portland amenities: The workplace is located at 2nd and Oak in beautiful downtown Portland. Parking is not provided at this facility but a light rail stop is in front of the office. Bus stops are within just a few blocks.
The Portland area, and Vancouver across the river in Washington, offers numerous resources for newcomers and residents. From shopping to sightseeing, open water sailing to museums, wildlife to theater. Portland has it all – including majestic Mount Hood and Mount Saint Helens rising above the skyline. The Willamette River runs through Portland with a waterfront area, offering picnicking, jogging areas, and schedule events, adjacent to the office. The Columbia River, offering numerous recreational activities, splits the Portland/Vancouver area.
