2015 Annual Meeting Call for Abstracts

Abstracts are due February 28, 2015

We are pleased to invite submission of abstracts for the 38th COFE Annual Meeting. The theme of the meeting is “Engineering Solutions for Non-Industrial Private Forest Operations”. Technical presentations addressing the following topics are sought, but presentations related to other applied forest engineering and operations topics might also be accepted.

  • Forest operations as a mean to restore and improve forest health
  • Biomass utilization for energy production
  • Best management practices to reduce site disturbances and maintain stream water quality
  • Transition to mechanized operations in hardwood forests
  • Small-scale forest operations for non-industrial private landowners

Abstract guidelines

Please indicate if your abstract is intended for a full paper and oral presentation or for a poster. If you submitting your abstract for a full paper, please also indicate if you are a student and would like to paper to be considered for the Student Communication Award (http://cofe.org/index.php/awards/student-communication-award).

Authors will be notified of abstract acceptance by March 2nd with full papers due by May 29th, 2015. Complete instructions for full papers will be made available before the due date. All accepted final papers will be a maximum of ten pages in length, will be accompanied by an oral presentation, distributed electronically to all conference participants at the annual meeting, and made available on-line to all COFE members from www.cofe.org.

COFE 2014 Business Meeting Minutes

Council on Forest Engineering Business Meeting Minutes, June 25, 2014  --  Moline, IL

  • Minutes from the 2013 Business Meeting were approved with no modifications
  • Future meetings
    • July 19 – 22, 2015, hosted by the University of Kentucky (Marco Contreras) in Lexington. The proposed theme is “Engineering solutions for non-industrial private forest operations”
    • 2016
      • Option 1 -- In conjunction with the Canadian Woodlands Forum’s DEMO International 2016. We will explore opportunities to partner with the DEMO meeting. FPInnovations may be willing to help COFE with the joint meeting.
      • Option 2 -- The University of Maine is willing to host the meeting if partnering with DEMO International 2016 doesn’t appear to be promising.

  • Global challenges in a changing forestry landscape
  • Business improvement opportunities in the forest industry
  • Innovations in biomass harvesting

In addition to presentations about applied forest engineering and operations topics, a one-day tour of John Deere’s assembly plants in Davenport and Dubuque, IA will provide participants with a chance to see the assembly of harvesting related equipment such as tracked and wheeled feller-bunchers, tracked harvesters, skidders, and motor graders and dozers.  The awards banquet will be held at the John Deere World Headquarters where there are several pieces of construction and forestry equipment on exhibit cheap ambien .

I’m pleased to invite submission of abstracts for the 2014 Council on Forest Engineering (COFE) annual meeting to be held June 22 – 25 in Moline, Illinois, USA. The conference website is located at http://wordpress.cfans.umn.edu/cfe/. The theme for the 2014 COFE meeting is “Global Harvesting Technology”. Technical presentations that address the following four sub-themes are sought. Other applied forest engineering and operations topics may also be accepted.

• Global challenges in a changing forestry landscape
• Business improvement opportunities in the forest industry
• Innovations in biomass harvesting
